Bagels

Canyon Bakehouse makes my favorite gluten free and allergy friendly bagel. I have to add that I am not making a comparison to freshly baked wheat bagels.  I haven’t had a gluten free and allergy friendly bagel yet that is even remotely close to the freshly baked wheat bagels I used to eat while living in the New York City area (pre-celiac days).  I’m not a bagel snob, I just know a good bagel when I eat one.  Unfortunately, this is one area that gluten free products have a hard time competing.  Add the additional time after baking to transport to the stores, sitting on the shelf or in the freezer, then defrosted, etc. and Canyon Bakehouse does a great job, in my opinion, of making a solid bagel.  Certainly as good or better than the leading wheat bagels that are put under the same conditions.

There are many occasions in our house that bagels are part of the celebration… so I primarily rely on Canyon Bakehouse.  All of the bagel varieties Canyon Bakehouse makes are very good. The Everything Bagels are my favorite variety though.  They have the flavor I am familiar with and when toasted, they are crisp on the outside and still have a soft center.  As much as I can ask from a gluten free and allergy friendly bagel!  The texture isn’t grainy and they hold up perfectly toasted with cream cheese, lox, onion and tomato (that’s how I eat my bagels).  Try a plain or cinnamon raisin bagel with some of my Curried Chicken Salad between the slices… yumm;-)

They are gluten free, dairy free, soy free, tree and peanut free.
