Gluten free sandwich bread. This is such a tough category! It is hard enough to make a good gluten free sandwich bread, but then to mass produce it so that will hold up to shipping and shelf life is another set of challenges. That being said, the quality has been improving lately. Whoop! Whoop!
One of my favorite brands is Three Bakers. They have several varieties that are all tasty and don’t need to be toasted to be enjoyed. They can hold more than PB & jam without falling apart and still have great flavor and texture. I eat the 7 grain & rye style, my daughter loves the white. It is best at room temp (not right from the fridge) and is great for grilled sandwiches.
Udi’s recently stepped up their game too. Their New Delicious Soft White gluten free sandwich bread reminds me of Wonder Bread. It is soft, flexible and holds up with more than PB & jam packed between the slices. You don’t need to toast it to enjoy it. It comes in regular sized loaves too! I used the white and whole grain varieties to make all of my Tea Sandwiches. They turned out perfectly!
The only downside is that it is Udi's gluten free sandwich bread is so moist that the slices often stick together & you have to carefully separate them so as not to tear them. This will not keep me from buying their bread though. Far from it!
Most of the varieties of Three Bakers and Udi's breads are soy, nut and dairy free but both contain eggs or egg whites. As always, check the labels to be sure that the variety you choose is free of whatever allergens you need to avoid.
