Grilled cheese is not just for kids anymore! This Gourmet Grilled Cheese elevates the typical sandwich to company-worthy status. Buttery toasted bread, gooey melted fontina cheese, peppery arugula and sweet truffle honey provide a balance of flavors and textures that will leave you ooohing and ahhhing.
Truffle Honey You Say?
If you’ve never had truffle honey, this is an awesome way to give it a try. It has a flavor all its own. Somewhat earthy, a little floral and of course, very sweet. I tried making this sandwich with regular honey and it is good, but the truffle honey makes it great. You can find it at some specialty grocers like Whole Foods and it might be near the cheese section. It is also available on Amazon.
Easy Cheesy
Assembling the sandwich is super easy. Start with a piece of bread, cover with slices of fontina cheese, drizzle with honey, then pack a handful of arugula on (the honey helps it stick), cover with another layer of fontina cheese slices, then top with a second slice of bread. Butter the top slice of bread. To help the cheese melt, you can cover the sandwich with a bowl or tent it with aluminum foil to trap heat in. If you are grilling the sandwiches in batches, you can keep them warm in a 200 degree oven until you are ready to serve them up.
Take a Dip!
If you like to dip your grilled cheese sandwich (think classic grilled cheese dipped in tomato soup)... this Gourmet Grilled Cheese would taste amazing dipped into Creamy Vegan Butternut Squash Soup. Also check out my Pizza Grilled Cheese. I like to make a few different kinds of sandwiches, cut them into fours and plate them up with various dips for variety. This is great for appetizers or for a lunch with friends.
